LGBTQ+ Rights

The LGBTQ+ community has historically been disproportionately affected by housing and workplace discrimination, but, in this era of Trump, anti-LGBTQ+ violence is rapidly on the rise as the administration has attempted to roll back anti-discrimination protections. In 2018, for example, at least 26 trans people were murdered, the majority of whom were black women.

We demand an end to the violence, and we will continue to fight for full equality for all LGTBQ+ people.

We will fight against discrimination in housing, employment, and public settings and work to ensure that our education system promotes inclusivity and has programs targeting homophobic and transphobic bullying.

  • Support the Equality Act, which would prohibit discrimination due to sexual orientation and/or gender identity as detailed in Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964

  • Support LGBTQ-inclusive education (curricular inclusion; programs to counter anti-LGBTQ bullying; LGTBQ-specific counseling and support; training and professional development for staff; the Safe Schools Improvement Act, the Student Non-Discrimination Act, the Tyler Clementi Higher Education Anti-Harassment Act, and the Real Education for Healthy Youth Act)

  • End the Trump administration’s ban on trans military service

  • De-gender public facilities

  • Ban conversion therapy nationwide

  • Guarantee trans-affirming healthcare

  • Ban intersex mutilation
